In a brazen assault on the rule of law, Governor Josh Shapiro openly vowed to thwart ICE agents the moment they set foot in Pennsylvania—declaring their only purpose “to violate people’s constitutional rights” and insisting their mission “needs to be terminated immediately, period, hard stop.”

Shapiro’s statement isn’t timid political theater. It’s a direct challenge to federal authority. Never before has a sitting governor so blatantly promised to stand in the way of national immigration enforcement.

He dropped this bombshell on ABC’s The View, a venue chosen for maximum spectacle. Facing questions about a deadly Border Patrol confrontation in Minneapolis, he cast ICE as an invading force bent on trampling civil liberties.

Then he turned his firehomeward. Asked what he’d do if Pennsylvania became the next target, Shapiro smirked: “We’ve been planning for this. We’ll be ready—in the community, in the courts.” Translation: He’ll mobilize activists and drag ICE into endless litigation.

Make no mistake: Shapiro isn’t invoking due process. He’s weaponizing the courts to cripple federal law enforcement. He boasts he’s sued President Biden 19 times—and “won every single time.” Now he wants to rewrite immigration policy by executive fiat.

This is raw political calculation. Shapiro’s vault toward the national spotlight comes at the expense of public safety. He rushes to defend noncitizens while ignoring Pennsylvania’s own residents struggling to secure jobs and resources.

Republicans have long championed ICE’s vital role: securing our borders, dismantling criminal networks, and upholding every law-abiding American’s rights. Shapiro’s defiance strikes at the very heart of that mission—and at the stability of our federal system.

Pennsylvania doesn’t need lawlessness masquerading as compassion. It needs a governor who respects both the Constitution and the will of the American people. Shapiro’s posture is reckless posturing, not leadership.
