The Squad’s Shameful Vote: 53 Democrats Refuse to Label Iran a Terror State

Fifty-three House Democrats voted against reaffirming Iran as the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism—a designation that has remained undisputed across both parties for four decades.

Let that sink in.

Among the lawmakers who couldn’t bring themselves to acknowledge this fundamental truth were far-left “Squad” members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, along with Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Summer Lee, Maxine Waters, and Al Green. New York Representatives Yvette Clarke and Nydia Velázquez also joined this disgraceful roster.

A Resolution That Should Have Been Unanimous

The measure, introduced by Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, passed 372-53 on Thursday. The resolution was straightforward and factual: it reaffirmed Iran’s status as the world’s premier terrorism financier and acknowledged the regime’s substantial military and financial support to Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.

Every single “no” vote came from a Democrat.

This isn’t complicated. Iran has been officially designated as a state sponsor of terrorism by the U.S. State Department since 1984—under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Just three years ago, a similar resolution condemning the Iranian terrorist regime sailed through the House with a 420-1 vote. Now, 53 Democrats suddenly developed amnesia about Iran’s bloody record.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt cut through the nonsense with surgical precision: “Trump Derangement Syndrome is melting their brains.”

She’s right. This vote had nothing to do with facts and everything to do with reflexive opposition to President Trump.

Iran’s Body Count

The resolution laid out Iran’s murderous track record in stark terms. Iranian-backed proxy militias are responsible for killing at least 603 U.S. service members in Iraq—roughly one in every six American combat fatalities.

The regime poses a direct and persistent threat to the United States and has killed hundreds of American citizens. Iran continues stockpiling enriched uranium while blocking inspectors from accessing undeclared nuclear sites. Their nuclear weapons program isn’t a conspiracy theory—it’s an established fact.

These aren’t debatable points. They’re documented reality.

The Excuse Making Begins

Rep. Sara Jacobs of California tried to justify her indefensible vote by claiming Republicans want to use the resolution to “legally justify this reckless war.”

“Iran is obviously a state sponsor of terrorism. There’s no debate on that,” Jacobs admitted on social media before launching into her tortured reasoning about Republicans allegedly comparing Iran to Al Qaeda.

If there’s no debate that Iran sponsors terrorism, then vote accordingly. It’s that simple.

Her explanation reveals the progressive left’s real motivation: opposing Trump matters more than stating obvious truths about America’s enemies.

A Dangerous Precedent

This vote represents a dangerous shift in the Democratic Party’s approach to national security. When more than four dozen members of Congress can’t bring themselves to reaffirm Iran’s status as a terror state—a designation that has enjoyed bipartisan consensus for 40 years—we’ve entered uncharted territory.

The Squad and their allies are so consumed by their hatred of the president that they’re willing to provide diplomatic cover to a regime that chants “Death to America” and funds terrorist organizations across the Middle East.

The Bottom Line

The Iranian regime brutally oppresses its own people, funds global terrorism, pursues nuclear weapons, and has American blood on its hands.

These facts don’t change based on who occupies the White House.

The 53 Democrats who voted against this resolution owe the American people—and especially the families of the 603 service members killed by Iranian proxies—an explanation that doesn’t insult our intelligence.

Their vote wasn’t about nuance or foreign policy sophistication. It was about partisanship triumphing over patriotism, ideology overwhelming common sense, and Trump Derangement Syndrome reaching its logical conclusion.

When you can’t vote to reaffirm that the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism is, in fact, a state sponsor of terrorism, you’ve lost the plot entirely.

The American people are watching. And they’re taking notes.
