Let Freedom Fly!

On July 4th, a daring photographer took to the skies above Manhattan, soaring to an altitude of 8,000 feet to capture the breathtaking spectacle of the 49th Annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks. His stunning aerial shots showcase the fireworks from an exhilarating vantage point, leaving onlookers in awe as 80,000 shells burst to life over the iconic skyline.

Filip Wolak, a seasoned aerial photographer and pilot, held the unique honor of being the only person in the sky that night. “I had the best seat in the house,” he confidently stated. Wolak’s extraordinary imagery reveals vibrant pyrotechnic displays lighting up the East River, surrounded by the grandeur of New York City.

“Fireworks in America are unlike any other,” Wolak remarked, expressing his passion for both the art of photography and the thrill of capturing them from above. He avoids the typical crowd experiences by finding a way to enjoy the show from the sky.

Despite the daunting challenge of photographing fireworks while piloting a plane, Wolak kept his composure. “It’s a high level of stress, but it’s a good stress,” he asserted, demonstrating the spirit of determination that defines true American grit. With someone by his side to monitor traffic and altitude, he meticulously slowed the plane to a crawl, ensuring his pictures would be nothing short of extraordinary.

Each year, Wolak captures the festive pyrotechnics, but this Independence Day presented a unique hurdle. With President Trump visiting, airspace across the tristate area faced major restrictions that had many fearing a cancellation. “I thought there was a chance I would not make it,” he disclosed. “But I’m glad I did.”

This year, as our nation celebrates independence, let’s remember the audacity and resilience we stand for—traits embodied in both Wolak’s stunning work and our great nation itself.
