Dozens of radical activists, enraged by the weekend’s fatal shooting of anti-ICE demonstrator Alex Pretti, stormed Minnesota’s State Capitol on Tuesday—surrounding Governor Tim Walz’s office with chants of “ICE out now” and “Do your job.”
Pretti charged a Customs and Border Protection agent during a lawful immigration operation on Saturday. The agent, under direct threat, fired in self-defense.
Since that incident, the Capitol has been occupied daily by anti-enforcement agitators demanding the wholesale withdrawal of federal border personnel. Their tactics cross the line from protest into disruption of state government.
Inside the Governor’s suite, Walz met with Border czar Tom Homan to demand a “swift, significant reduction” of federal forces in Minnesota and an end to what Walz described as a “campaign of retribution.”
President Trump personally backed that call in a Tuesday phone briefing. Trump praised the Minnesota delegation for finding “common ground” on immigration operations and signaled he would overhaul command assignments in the state.
Within hours, Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino was reassigned from Minnesota back to California’s El Centro sector. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, fresh from a two-hour strategy session with the President, remains firmly in place.
Walz has repeatedly denounced ICE agents as “Gestapo,” likening the plight of undocumented migrants in Minnesota to Anne Frank’s flight from the Nazis. That comparison trivializes real history and insults the dedicated Americans who enforce our laws.
Meanwhile, radical protesters have refused to acknowledge the agency’s duty to secure our borders and protect communities. They weaponize grief over Pretti’s death to pursue an open-borders agenda that endangers every state.
President Trump has taken decisive steps to reorient Minnesota’s immigration operation. He dispatched Homan on Sunday, removed key personnel, and instructed Noem to tighten oversight.
These moves aren’t mere politics—they are a statement of principle: no state capitol stands above federal law, and no protest justifies interference with border enforcement.
Governor Walz can either choose to defend public order or continue courting chaos with inflammatory rhetoric. The President has made his position clear: enforce the law, secure our borders and safeguard American citizens first.
The radical fringe may screech slogans and block hallways, but the rule of law will prevail. America demands leadership, not pandering to lawless mobs.
