Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner now faces a credible rape allegation from a woman who says he showed up uninvited at her home in 2021 and forcibly assaulted her—a damning accusation that has finally forced even Bernie Sanders to cut ties with the embattled Democrat.
Jenny Racicot described a harrowing encounter where Platner allegedly appeared at her residence without invitation and committed sexual assault. Her account leaves nothing to interpretation.
“I remember him grabbing my pelvis and being really forceful of me,” Racicot stated. “I remember the specific moment where I thought to myself, like, ‘This is no longer my choice.'”
Those are the words of someone describing rape, plain and simple.
Sanders Reverses Course After Defending the Indefensible
The socialist senator from Vermont posted his belated recommendation that Platner withdraw, stating he had “spoken with Graham Platner about the best path forward for Maine.” Sanders added that “in light of these very serious allegations, I have recommended that he step aside.”
This represents a stunning reversal for Sanders, who previously championed Platner despite mounting evidence of deeply troubling behavior. Just weeks ago, Sanders praised Platner for having “the guts to stand up to the big money interests” and fighting for socialist healthcare policies.
Apparently having “the guts” to push government-run healthcare matters more to Sanders than having the basic human decency not to sexually assault women—at least until the political costs became too steep.
A Pattern of Predatory Behavior and Disturbing Views
This latest allegation represents just the tip of an iceberg that Democrats willfully ignored for months.
Platner sports a Nazi tattoo—a fact that somehow didn’t immediately disqualify him in the eyes of the supposedly “anti-fascist” Democratic establishment.
He sent sexually explicit texts to multiple women early in his marriage, demonstrating a pattern of sexual impropriety and infidelity.
Most revealing of all, EMILY’s List uncovered Reddit posts where Platner blamed sexual assault victims for their own attacks. In those now-deleted comments, Platner argued that assault victims should “just take some responsibility for themselves” and “act like an adult for f-cks sake.”
He suggested people should avoid alcohol to prevent ending up in “compromising situations”—classic victim-blaming rhetoric that places responsibility on those attacked rather than attackers.
These weren’t off-the-cuff remarks. These were considered written statements that Platner conveniently scrubbed from the internet before launching his Senate campaign. He knew exactly how damaging they were.
The Democratic Establishment Knew and Didn’t Care
Here’s what should alarm every voter: Democratic leaders backed this candidate despite red flag after red flag.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee threw its weight behind Platner. Progressive darling Bernie Sanders championed him as a fighter for the working class. Prominent Democrats like Rep. Ro Khanna and Sen. Ruben Gallego endorsed his candidacy.
They all knew about the Nazi tattoo. They all knew about the sexually explicit messages. They all knew about his vile comments blaming sexual assault victims.
And they backed him anyway.

Democrats lecture Americans endlessly about believing women and taking sexual misconduct seriously. They destroyed Brett Kavanaugh over decades-old allegations lacking corroborating evidence. They created the “MeToo” movement as a weapon against their political opponents.
But when the accused is one of their own—especially one pushing their socialist policy agenda—those principles evaporate instantly.
