The Biden administration has crossed a dangerous line, utilizing no-fly lists—traditionally reserved for suspected terrorists—to punish Americans who dared to defy arbitrary COVID-19 mask mandates. This shocking revelation comes from an internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigation, exposing a blatant abuse of power.

Between September and October 2021, 19 Americans found themselves unjustly designated on Transportation Security Administration (TSA) watchlists. More than half of these individuals received the most severe no-fly designation, preventing them from boarding flights. This overreach persisted until April 2022, when a federal court ruling forced the Biden administration to cease its mask mandate.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem articulated the outrage perfectly: “Biden’s TSA wildly abused their authority.” This was not a mere misstep; it was an essential weaponization of government against law-abiding citizens. Noem celebrates the commitment to reversing this trend, referencing President Trump’s promise to put an end to government overreach.

Noem has taken swift action, dismissing five senior officials involved in this egregious operation and handing over critical information to the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and congressional members for further scrutiny. This is a necessary accountability measure; the American people demand it.

Senator Rand Paul has also stepped forward with his findings. His report indicates that at least 24 Americans were added to TSA watchlists solely for their connection to the Freedom to Breathe Agency, which protested against mask mandates. Another 280 Americans faced similar treatment for their participation in protests surrounding the January 6 Capitol riot.

The internal DHS probe revealed that even the chief TSA privacy officer expressed concern about these actions, stating that placing Americans on no-fly lists is “clearly unrelated to transportation security.” Such remarks underscore how far this administration strayed from its mandate to protect citizens rather than persecute them for their beliefs.

As as we look deeper, it becomes evident that the TSA over-utilized a flawed database from George Washington University’s Program of Extremism, sidelining credible sources like the FBI. With operational blunders occurring at such alarming rates, including mislabeling a National Guardsman and the spouse of a federal air marshal as security threats, it is crystal clear the Biden administration’s apparatus is broken.

While most individuals have since been cleared from these unjust watchlists, many were wronged for merely exercising their constitutional rights. This situation epitomizes the urgency for reform in how our government handles security, civil rights, and accountability. The American people deserve comprehensive transparency and an unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms. It’s time to put an end to the government overreach that threatens our very freedoms.
