President Trump’s border policies have achieved a resounding milestone: the lowest number of illegal migrant crossings in recorded history. This accomplishment is stark and undeniable.
In June, federal agents apprehended just 6,070 migrants attempting to cross the US-Mexico border unlawfully. Importantly, not a single one of these individuals was released into the United States. Trump’s ‘border czar’ Tom Homan made this clear in a powerful statement.
“President Trump has created the most secure border in the nation’s history—and the numbers reflect this unprecedented success. We are witnessing figures we’ve never seen before,” Homan stated emphatically.
The significant decline in crossings can largely be attributed to Trump’s aggressive mass deportation strategy, which has effectively deterred potential migrants from attempting to breach the border.
“God bless the men and women of the US Border Patrol and the dedicated agents of ICE. The enforcement actions we see today—these interior arrests—are directly responsible for lowering illegal immigration rates. The TRUMP EFFECT is keeping America on the path to victory,” Homan declared.
This new reality stands in stark contrast to the chaos of the Biden administration, during which border crossings surged to alarming levels. Homan pointed out that in just two days in June 2024, more migrants entered the US than were apprehended throughout the entire month just past.
On one particularly notable Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security reported that only 137 migrants were intercepted crossing the border. “That number is less than what was seen in just a single day under the Biden administration. In fact, the total apprehension figures from this month are less than half of what we encountered on many days during his term,” Homan said.
June 2024 alone saw over 83,000 migrants cross the border, a staggering figure compared to the 99,000 crossings recorded in June 2023 and roughly 192,000 in June 2022.
Trump set the first significant record in February, when 8,347 migrants crossed the border, per federal data.
“The world is now receiving a clear message: our border is firmly closed to lawbreakers. Under President Trump’s leadership, Border Patrol agents are finally empowered to fulfill their crucial mission: securing our border and safeguarding the American people,” stated Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
