Spencer Pratt Calls Out the Con

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt didn’t mince words, branding the regulations a “scam” in a blistering social media post that resonated with fed-up Californians.

“See the magic trick? They deliberately make your gas prices more expensive, to compel you to stop driving. Then they use the artificially high cost of fuel to impose further regulations and higher tire costs on you,” Pratt explained.

He’s right. This is manufactured crisis meets manufactured solution.

The Gas Price Shell Game

Commissioner Nancy Skinner—a former Democratic state senator with a long record of environmental legislation—justified the tire mandate by pointing to California’s sky-high gas prices. “Look at the gas prices everyone’s experiencing,” she told reporters. “If we can bring each Californian’s gas cost down just a little bit, then why wouldn’t we?”

The sheer audacity is stunning.

California’s gas prices are the highest in the nation precisely because of policies championed by politicians like Skinner—punitive taxes, boutique fuel blend requirements, and layers of environmental regulations that strangle supply and inflate costs.

Congressman James Gallagher cut through the absurdity: “A longtime Democrat politician who made gas prices the highest in the nation complains about said high gas price and uses it as justification to raise the cost of your tires. You can’t make this up!”

Assemblyman Josh Hoover warned that the regulations will “limit consumer choice” and have “the potential to raise costs for families by hundreds of dollars.” He called it “another example of California leading the nation in all the wrong ways.”
