A shocking attack on law enforcement unfolded Thursday in Chicago, where a violent mob targeted ICE officers with fireworks and rocks, aiming to intimidate those who enforce our immigration laws. This audacious display of aggression will not deter the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from upholding the rule of law.
In the Little Village neighborhood at the corner of 27th and Whipple, a crowd of up to 100 rioters aggressively surrounded ICE agents, blocking their vehicles with a truck. Rather than abiding by law enforcement, these protestors escalated their confrontation, launching commercial-grade fireworks directly at officers. This brazen act of defiance highlights the growing unrest that undermines our nation’s commitment to security and order.
DHS responded firmly, stating, “Law and order will triumph in Chicago.” They made it clear that such lawlessness would not be tolerated. Video footage reveals the chaos as aggressive protestors shouted threats and hurled projectiles. Despite the hostile environment, Border Patrol agents remained committed to their mission.
During the encounter, the rioters intensified their assault, striking Chief Greg Bovino in the head with a thrown object. This level of violence is unacceptable and illustrates the challenges that law enforcement faces as they strive to maintain public safety. Border Patrol’s use of riot control measures, including chemical agents, was executed in accordance with established protocols and was vital to securing both the agents and the community.
The message from DHS is unequivocal: they will continue to enforce immigration laws and protect our borders. The rule of law prevails, and those who threaten it will face the consequences. Now more than ever, we must stand firm in our commitment to safeguarding our communities against disorder and lawlessness.
