A Dallas doctor has surrendered her medical license, marking a decisive step in safeguarding our children’s well-being. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Dr. May C. Lau in 2024 for illegally prescribing gender transition drugs to minors. This action reflects an unwavering commitment to protect Texas youth from harmful medical practices.

On October 24, Paxton announced that Dr. Lau’s state medical license was relinquished. However, the legal battle is far from over. “May Lau has done untold damage to children, both physically and psychologically,” Paxton declared, emphasizing that this victory for the state is just the beginning. He vowed to persist in holding accountable anyone attempting to transition minors.

Dr. Lau’s license was officially “canceled by request,” according to records from the Texas Medical Board. Her attorney has chosen to remain silent during this critical time, failing to provide any comment.

The state’s lawsuit alleges that Lau prescribed high doses of cross-sex hormones to 21 minors intending to facilitate their gender transition. This case is grounded in Senate Bill 14, a vital law enacted in September 2023, which was upheld by the Texas Supreme Court in June 2024. This legislation explicitly prohibits gender transition procedures for minors, including surgeries and hormone therapies, ensuring that our children are protected.

Importantly, this law empowers the Texas Medical Board to revoke the licenses of physicians who flout its provisions. Dr. Lau is accused of prescribing testosterone, a controlled substance, to female minors under the guise of medical necessity, further demonstrating the reckless disregard for ethical medical practice.

The lawsuit also alleges that Dr. Lau manipulated medical and billing records to deceive pharmacies and insurance providers, obscuring the true purpose of the prescriptions.

Earlier this year, Lau entered a Rule 11 agreement with the state, banning her from practicing medicine while the case is pending. Under this agreement, she is prohibited from providing any treatment aimed at transitioning a minor’s biological sex and must refrain from using fraudulent diagnoses or billing codes.

Paxton has taken similar actions against other physicians, including El Paso’s Dr. Hector Granados and Dallas’s Dr. Brett Cooper, both facing grave allegations under Senate Bill 14. This relentless pursuit of justice sends a clear message: Texas will not tolerate medical malpractice that jeopardizes our children.

The fight for the protection of our youth is far from over, and we stand resolute in our mission to uphold the law and ensure the safety of every child in Texas.
