Fetterman Breaks Ranks: Democrat Senator Declares “Iranian Regime Has to Fall” as Trump Launches Operation Epic Fury
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) delivered a stunning rebuke to his own party Saturday, declaring unequivocal support for President Donald Trump’s massive military strikes against Iran while challenging European allies and fellow Democrats who continue clinging to the failed fantasy of negotiating with the Islamic Republic.
“Negotiations have never worked [with Iran],” Fetterman stated bluntly during a Saturday morning television appearance. “Sometimes you have to take action to create peace.”
The Pennsylvania Democrat—who has emerged as one of the Senate’s most unflinching supporters of Israel—didn’t stop there. He directly confronted European leaders pushing for renewed diplomatic engagement with Tehran’s terrorist regime.
“Why can’t we all agree that the Iranian regime has to fall?” Fetterman demanded, cutting through the diplomatic niceties that have paralyzed Western policy toward Iran for decades.
Putting Country Over Party
When pressed about criticism from his fellow Democrats, Fetterman offered a simple but powerful counter: “It’s about country over party.”
The senator expanded on his position through social media, praising Trump’s decisive leadership. “President Trump has been willing to do what’s right and necessary to produce real peace in the region,” Fetterman wrote. “God bless the United States, our great military, and Israel.”
This represents a remarkable evolution for a politician many conservatives wrote off as a guaranteed far-left vote when he won his Senate seat in 2022. Instead, Fetterman has consistently broken with Democratic orthodoxy, particularly on national security and Israel.
The Homeland Security Committee member has a track record of bucking his party. Last June, he supported operations that destroyed Iran’s nuclear sites while his Democratic colleagues wrung their hands over “escalation.”
Bipartisan Support Emerges
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a consistent advocate for muscular American military posture abroad, expressed awe at the president’s resolve.
“As I watch and monitor this historic operation, I’m in awe of President Trump’s determination to be a man of peace but at the end of the day, evil’s worst nightmare,” Graham wrote Saturday morning. “Well done, Mr. President.”
In a follow-up post, Graham added: “God bless President Trump, our military and our allies in Israel.”
Even Trump Critics Rally
Perhaps most striking was support from former Vice President Mike Pence, who has maintained sharp criticism of Trump since their partnership ended. Even Pence recognized the necessity of the strikes.
“Justice is Being Served Against the World’s Leading State Sponsor of Terrorism,” Pence declared, acknowledging the fundamental reality that Iran’s regime represents an existential threat to regional stability and American interests.
Predictable Opposition
Not surprisingly, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY)—one of Trump’s most persistent Republican critics—complained about congressional authorization, despite reports that the Gang of Eight received classified briefings on the operation earlier in the week.
“Acts of war unauthorized by Congress,” Massie wrote, clinging to procedural objections while Iran’s ballistic missile infrastructure was being systematically dismantled.
In another post, he added: “I am opposed to this War. This is not ‘America First.'”
Massie’s position ignores a fundamental truth: allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons and advanced ballistic missiles capable of striking American allies—and eventually American cities—is the opposite of putting America first.
The Military Operation
According to U.S. officials, Operation Epic Fury is targeting military installations and ballistic missile sites that pose an “imminent threat” to American forces and allies in the region. The strikes are being conducted jointly with Israel.
While American forces are focusing on military infrastructure, Israeli forces are targeting the Iranian regime’s leadership—the architects of four decades of terrorism, regional destabilization, and threats to annihilate the Jewish state.
The Broader Context
Fetterman’s position reflects a growing recognition, even among some Democrats, that decades of engagement, negotiations, and economic incentives have failed spectacularly to moderate Iranian behavior.
The Islamic Republic has used diplomatic breathing room to advance its nuclear program, fund terrorist proxies across the Middle East, attack commercial shipping, and plot assassinations on American soil.
Strength, not weakness, produces peace. Trump understands this fundamental principle of international relations. So does Fetterman, who deserves credit for breaking with his party’s reflexive opposition to American military action.
The real question for Democrats is whether they’ll continue defending a regime that chants “Death to America” or join Fetterman in recognizing that some enemies cannot be negotiated with—they must be defeated.
Trump is delivering that defeat. History will judge which senators had the courage to support America’s interests over partisan politics.
