Democrats Cry Foul Over ICE Arrests—Despite 92% of DACA Recipients Having Criminal Records

Ninety-two percent had criminal histories. Yet prominent Democrats are demanding these illegal immigrants receive a “path to citizenship” anyway, revealing the left’s reckless disregard for public safety and the rule of law.

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin and fellow Democrats Mark Kelly and Alex Padilla erupted in protest after Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 261 DACA recipients during President Donald Trump’s second term. The Democratic trio released a melodramatic statement lamenting how these arrests “disrupt families” and “harm communities”—conveniently ignoring the far more relevant fact that the overwhelming majority of those arrested were criminals.

The numbers don’t lie. According to federal data from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, 241 of the 261 arrested DACA recipients—a staggering 92%—had criminal histories beyond simple immigration violations. Just over one-third were subsequently deported.

Yet Durbin’s response defied all logic and reason. He actually claimed the arrests were “wrongful” and doubled down on his demand for amnesty, posting on social media that “Dreamers deserve a path to citizenship, not deportation.”

Read that again. Criminals who entered our country illegally—or overstayed their visas—”deserve” citizenship. This is the modern Democratic Party in a nutshell.

Secretary Noem demolished the Democrats’ narrative with facts and legal clarity. In her letter to Durbin, she explained that DACA “comes with no right or entitlement to remain in the United States indefinitely.” She further noted that aliens with certain criminal histories are explicitly ineligible for DACA consideration, and those who violate the terms face termination and removal.

This is straightforward enforcement of existing law. Nothing more, nothing less.

But Democrats aren’t interested in the law. They’re interested in open borders and unlimited amnesty, regardless of criminal behavior or public safety concerns. Durbin and his colleagues actually demanded “more information” from Secretary Noem, claiming they “won’t accept partial information”—as if a 92% criminal rate weren’t sufficiently damning.

The Democratic senators had the audacity to question whether DHS was being truthful, suggesting the Trump Administration routinely arrests immigrants “with no serious criminal convictions” and falsely labels them the “worst of the worst.” This baseless accusation insults both the integrity of our law enforcement agencies and the intelligence of the American people.

DACA was an unconstitutional executive overreach implemented by Barack Obama’s administration to provide work permits and deportation protections for those who broke our immigration laws as children. President Trump attempted to terminate the lawless program during his first term, but was blocked by judicial activism at the Supreme Court in 2020.

Now, in his second term, Trump is doing what any responsible president should do: enforcing immigration law and removing criminal aliens who have no legal right to remain in the United States.

The Democratic position is both morally bankrupt and politically toxic. They’re literally advocating for citizenship for criminals who shouldn’t be in the country in the first place. They’re prioritizing the interests of illegal aliens over the safety and security of American citizens.

This isn’t compassion. It’s chaos.

The American people understand what’s at stake. They elected Donald Trump precisely because he promised to restore order to our immigration system and remove those who break our laws. When 92% of arrested DACA recipients have criminal histories, that’s not “wrongful” enforcement—that’s exactly the kind of targeted, effective immigration enforcement voters demanded.

Democrats can cry and protest all they want. The facts remain stubborn things. These arrests were legal, justified, and necessary. The criminals who were deported got exactly what they deserved: removal from a country they had no right to remain in after breaking its laws.

Secretary Noem and the Trump Administration are doing their jobs. It’s time Democrats stopped obstructing justice and started putting American citizens first.
