Democrats are actively plotting to shut down the government under the guise of political messaging aimed squarely at Republicans, according to Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX). This isn’t just a strategy; it’s a fundamental betrayal of the American people.
“They’re throwing around a slew of demands to frame this as a political stunt against us,” Roy asserted. “Our message is clear: let’s maintain government funding as Democrats have done over thirteen times during the Biden administration. We’re advocating for a straightforward continuing resolution—no new programs, just stability.”
“Let’s get real. While they demonize Republicans, it’s their own party that threatens a government shutdown. We want to ensure continuity in government operations. I recall when I was Senator Cruz’s Chief of Staff—he warned against Obamacare, correctly predicting its disastrous impact on healthcare costs. Now, the tables have turned and it’s Democrats scheming to hold the government hostage over COVID-era subsidies,” he declared.
“The absolute irony is evident. Democrats demand that we halt government funding to push for more COVID-era subsidies which Republicans unanimously opposed. They want to prolong these temporary measures that expire this year and drag us back to past contentions—like discussing work requirements for Medicaid or whether illegal immigrants should access health benefits,” Roy emphasized, affirming his bid for the next attorney general of Texas.
“When you tally all that up, we’re looking at a potential $1.5 trillion expansion of these programs. This is where Democrats are losing ground. The American people are smarter than this. They understand our commitment to maintaining government funding and recognizing the need for serious reforms in a healthcare system badly broken by the very subsidies Democrats instituted. Thanks to their policies, healthcare has become unaffordable, consuming an unsustainable portion of our GDP, with costs projected to hit a staggering $7 trillion by 2031,” he added.
As it stands, if no agreement is reached, the government is set to shut down at midnight.
