On that fateful night, a crowd of anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protesters had gathered outside the base, responding to rumors that federal immigration agents were being housed on Coast Guard Island. Tensions escalated throughout the day, culminating in clashes with federal agents, resulting in multiple arrests and injuries, including a reporter’s security guard who was violently assaulted by protesters.
The incident took a critical turn when a masked suspect in a U-Haul truck was filmed repeatedly reversing toward Coast Guard personnel.
