Dozens of protesters were arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge during a demonstration organized by “Rabbis for Ceasefire.” This bold act of civil disobedience highlights a growing rift in American Jewish communities regarding support for Israel and military action in Gaza.

A total of 56 individuals were apprehended after blocking traffic in a calculated display of protest. This event, coinciding with Yom Kippur, marks a stark departure from the traditional observance of this solemn day, as these Rabbis and Rabbinical students publicly advocate for Palestine while opposing Israel’s right to defend itself.

As NYPD officers moved in to handle the situation, protesters—donning keffiyehs—continued their chants, clapping and singing in Hebrew despite warnings of impending arrest for disorderly conduct. Their actions disrupt not just traffic but also the fabric of cohesive discourse within the Jewish community.

Photographic evidence shows the protesters positioned strategically in front of a banner declaring “not another bomb,” demonstrating a clear political stance while invoking cultural and religious sentiments. They continued their songs even as they were being cuffed, revealing a disturbing commitment to their cause over civility.

This protest began at approximately 3:30 PM at Brooklyn Borough Hall, incorporating the Yizkor ritual—a memorial prayer specific to Yom Kippur. Rather than honoring this significant Jewish practice with reverence, the organizers chose to turn a day of solemn remembrance into a political stage, raising questions about their priorities.

It’s time we demand accountability from those who use faith as a shield to push divisive agendas. Active support for our allies and a clear stance against terrorism must guide our collective conscience—especially in such critical times.
