Title: HUD Annihilates Biden’s Race-Based Appraisal Mandate, Restores Fairness in Housing
Today, HUD ripped up an illegal Biden-era order that forced race quotas on America’s property appraisers. This decisive move ends a reckless assault on home valuations and reclaims merit over ideology.
Under Joe Biden, HUD weaponized “disparate impact” theory to coerce the Appraisal Foundation into race-based targets. No homeowner complaint, no evidence of actual bias—just raw political power wielded to impose DEI mandates.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner announced the termination in stark terms: “We will no longer tolerate the Biden administration’s racial preferencing. Every American deserves equal treatment and market-driven appraisals, not government edicts.”
Assistant Secretary Craig Trainor spelled out the absurdity. Biden’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity poured resources into labeling a predominantly white profession a “problem”—then forced race quotas as the “solution.” That’s not enforcement; it’s ideological overreach.
The Biden-era conciliation agreement required the Appraisal Foundation to fund “diversity” scholarships, create special DEI committees, and adopt outside consultant recommendations. All of it untethered from the Fair Housing Act or any real civil-rights violation.
Now, HUD has declared the deal void effective immediately. The agency found the terms “untethered” from both law and the nation’s best interest. Appraiser qualifications will return to competency standards, not demographic targets.
Real estate professionals are breathing a sigh of relief. They warned that racial quotas would undermine public trust and inflate costs for everyday homeowners. Today’s action protects home values and preserves confidence in the mortgage market.
This is more than a policy reversal; it’s a repudiation of the left’s DEI crusade in every corner of government. When ideology trumps expertise, Americans pay the price—in higher fees, delayed closings and legal uncertainty.
Congress must now step in to bar any future administration from weaponizing disparate impact theory. A clear, bipartisan ban on race-based mandates in appraisal and lending is the next logical step.
In ending the Biden-era scheme, HUD has reaffirmed the fundamental American principle: opportunity should be earned on merit, not parceled out by race. That is fairness. That is equality. And that is what true conservatives defend.
