When asked whether they’d embrace an endorsement from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, not one would answer yes. One candidate even hid her face. It was a stunning admission: Democrats know Mamdani’s hard‐left brand of socialism is toxic in the suburbs.
Video from a Jan. 13 forum shows GOP trackers pressing Peter Chatzky, John Sullivan, Mike Sacks, John Cappello and Effie Phillips-Staley. Each dodged the question. Not a single voice defended the democratic-socialist mayor’s radical agenda.
That silence speaks volumes. Voters north of the city—Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties—reject Mamdani’s calls to defund police, raise taxes on small businesses and expand welfare programs without accountability.
Republicans have already weaponized Mamdani’s record. Last fall, the Nassau County GOP spent $2 million on mailers highlighting Democratic acceptance of his agenda—and crushed the opposition.
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters has it right: Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are the new face of the Democratic Party. Every time Democrats embrace that face in primaries, Republicans gain ground in the general election.
Incumbent Rep. Mike Lawler stands firm on common-sense policies: safer streets, fiscally responsible budgets and stronger schools. His record contrasts sharply with Democrats flinching under pressure from New York’s left wing.
Even the nonpartisan Cook Political Report now labels Lawler’s seat a “toss-up.” That shift underscores the panic among Democrats forced to explain why they won’t stand by their own socialist champions.
With the left pulling the party further from the center, suburban voters are demanding accountability—and simple answers. They want leaders who won’t hide when asked to defend their allies.
November’s midterms will be a referendum on reason versus radicalism. Republicans are ready to show once more that common sense—and unwavering confidence—in conservative principles wins the day.
