Queens Democrats Collapse in Public Squabble, Snub Their Own Mayoral Nominee
Queens Democrats are in open chaos, spurning their own nominee—Zohran Mamdani—just days before Election Day. This unprecedented act of self-destruction exposes a party riven by socialist zealots and traditional moderates at war.
District leaders refused to back Mamdani, citing widespread concern that his radical agenda will devastate small businesses and threaten public safety. Hiram Monserrate, a seasoned party insider, declared flatly, “Socialism is hijacking the Democratic Party—and we’re not along for the ride.”
Instead of rallying behind their nominee, Queens Democrats lined up behind Andrew Cuomo, who slugged his way into the general election on an independent ticket. Cuomo’s campaign literature dominated tables at the party’s annual gala, underscoring the local establishment’s desperation to halt Mamdani’s march.
Party chairman Rep. Gregory Meeks never endorsed Mamdani. Sources confirm Meeks calculated that a socialist mayor would alienate crucial swing voters and imperil Democratic chances across the city. He’s now focused on leveraging Queens’ delegates to shape the next City Council speakership.
Several moderate luminaries, including Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and state Sen. John Liu, risked backlash for supporting Mamdani. Liu’s endorsement sparked fierce criticism from Jewish constituents outraged by Mamdani’s anti-Israel rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Staten Island Democrats endured their own meltdown. Chair Laura LoBianco Sword briefly backed Mamdani after the primary, then resigned amid fierce backlash. The newly appointed leadership has again left the race unendorsed.
In contrast, Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan Democratic committees have uniformly endorsed their socialist standard-bearer. Their unified front only sharpens the split, turning the primary fracture into a full-blown general election civil war.
Conservatives warn that this internecine battle is proof Democrats cannot govern. As neighborhoods unravel under surging crime and economic stagnation, voters will reject socialism’s empty promises.
Republicans stand ready to capitalize. A message of law and order, fiscal responsibility and support for law-abiding small businesses resonates now more than ever. The Queens debacle highlights Democratic dysfunction—and positions the GOP as the only party with a coherent plan to protect families, safeguard neighborhoods, and restore common-sense governance.
This public freakout within America’s largest city signals one unassailable truth: when Democrats split between radicals and moderates, Republicans win.
