Ten innocent French civilians lie wounded—four fighting for their lives—after a radical Islamist plowed his SUV into pedestrians and cyclists on Île d’Oléron. This brazen act of vehicular terror on a tranquil Atlantic island proves once again that Europe’s security apparatus is broken.

The attacker, a man in his mid-30s with a rap sheet of theft, drug offenses and repeated erratic behavior, screamed “Allahu Akbar” as police wrestled him to the ground. He even tried to ignite gas cylinders in his vehicle before officers managed to subdue him. Yet French intelligence—blinded by political correctness—failed to flag him as a threat.

This wasn’t a lone wolf gone rogue. It was a glaring illustration of systemic failure. A known criminal with extremist intent slipped through every crack in the domestic security net. No watchlist holds his name; no radical preacher has been shut down; no mosque has faced scrutiny. The result is carnage in the streets.

France has already paid dearly for this negligence. In 2020, Samuel Paty was beheaded in a classroom. In 2023, an ISIS-inspired attacker murdered a literature teacher in Arras. In December 2023, yet another Islamist assailant killed a Parisian citizen with a knife and hammer. Still, the government dithers.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez arrived on Île d’Oléron and opened yet another investigation. The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office is “monitoring” developments. Meanwhile, victims bleed. This toothless response sends a clear message: Islamist violence meets with half-measures.

We must demand real accountability. France needs aggressive vetting of known offenders, immediate surveillance of radical networks, and the closure of extremist mosques. Security services must regain the power to detain suspects on credible intelligence—not wait for blood in the streets.

America and our European allies face the same scourge. We cannot afford the luxury of political correctness. We must share intelligence, tighten border controls, and ban foreign funding of radical organizations. This is not a culture war—it is a war for civilization.

No more speeches. No more investigations that go nowhere. We need decisive action now. Allowing known extremists to roam free is inviting more bloodshed. The time for half-measures has passed. It’s time to win this war—here, in France, and across the West.
