Conservative activist Robby Starbuck is taking a bold stand against Big Tech, launching a $15 million defamation lawsuit against Google. The tech behemoth’s AI tools—Bard, Gemini, and Gemma—have unleashed a torrent of “outrageously false” claims, branding him as a criminal. Starbuck alleges that Google’s biased algorithms have falsely accused him of severe offenses, including sexual assault, murder, and even connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The ramifications are serious: these toxic lies have reached around 2.8 million users, jeopardizing Starbuck’s reputation and personal safety.
Starbuck, an outspoken opponent of woke corporate culture, did not sit idly by. He issued cease-and-desist letters to Google executives, including CEO Sundar Pichai, yet the slander persisted. This troubling situation is compounded by recent violent attacks on conservative figures, highlighting the real threat posed by these inflammatory accusations. Starbuck points to the current political climate as a powder keg, noting the potential for incited violence against him.
“If you know me personally, you know these claims are categorically false,” Starbuck stated. “I wasn’t even of age to commit such crimes in the years alleged. Google has deliberately constructed a narrative designed to damage my reputation.” He emphatically asserts that the tech giant has gone to extraordinary lengths to fabricate damaging stories, subsequently validating these lies through misleading mainstream news.
The lawsuit charges Google with negligence and malice, focusing on its intentional targeting of conservative voices. Starbuck’s legal team argues that Google failed to address the inherent flaws in its AI models, allowing harmful distortions to proliferate without intervention.
“This case exposes the unprecedented peril of a trillion-dollar corporation wielding AI tools capable of obliterating reputations in seconds, yet refusing accountability for the fallout,” declared Krista Baughman from the Dhillon Law Group, representing Starbuck. “Freedom of expression does not grant the right to invent criminal accusations against individuals. AI companies must adhere to the same standards of truth as traditional publishers.”
In response to the lawsuit, Google dismissed Starbuck’s claims, attributing the alleged inaccuracies to “hallucinations,” a familiar issue in the development of early AI models that they claim to have rectified. They contend that such outputs cannot be duplicated in current models and hint that user prompts may have contributed to the errors.
Robby Starbuck is no stranger to standing up to Big Tech. In August, he settled a similar defamation lawsuit against Meta and is now advising them on AI bias policies. Starbuck’s work led to significant advancements in Meta AI’s accuracy and efforts to combat ideological bias. This collaboration underscores his commitment to ensuring AI technologies serve all Americans fairly and truthfully.
