On September 23, Google’s lawyers admitted to Congress that the Biden administration exerted “repeated and sustained” pressure to silence Trump supporters and any dissenting voices. This is not just unacceptable; it’s an outright assault on free speech.
But before you raise a glass to this half-hearted revelation, let’s cut through the noise: Google’s admission was weak, its promises unconvincing, and its commitment to change nonexistent.
1. No New Information
Let’s be clear: Google’s letter added nothing to a narrative already exposed by others. Mark Zuckerberg has already confessed under oath about the Biden administration’s intimidation tactics. Elon Musk peeled back the layers of censorship with the Twitter Files. Google’s carefully crafted response is simply more evasion, lacking substance or accountability.
2. No Acknowledgment of Wrongdoing
Despite the flowery language about transparency, Google failed to acknowledge the extensive censorship it has imposed. They omitted any admission that silencing discussions around COVID-19 origins was wrong, misleading Congress in the process. Their generalities serve more as a warning against political scrutiny rather than a genuine acknowledgment of wrongdoing.
3. No Voluntary Disclosure
Zuckerberg and Musk came forward voluntarily; Google only responded after being legally compelled. Why? Because they know they have the most to lose. Research shows that during the 2024 campaign, Google systematically buried conservative content and manipulated search results to favor Democrats.
