SLEEPY SUOZZI: Long Island Democrat Caught Napping During Trump’s Address to Nation
Democrat Rep. Tom Suozzi was caught red-handed dozing off during President Trump’s address to the nation Tuesday night—and Republicans gunning for his seat aren’t letting him forget it.
“What can I say? Tired Tom isn’t up for the job,” declared Mike LiPetri, who came within striking distance of unseating Suozzi in the 2024 general election.
The embarrassing moment laid bare what Long Island voters already suspect: their congressman has checked out.
Can’t Stay Awake, Can’t Do the Job
LiPetri, a former state Assemblyman positioning himself as the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, didn’t mince words about the sleepy incumbent’s fitness for office.
“Sleepy Suozzi has made it clear he only wakes up when it’s time to trade stocks, raise taxes, and turn his back on Law Enforcement,” LiPetri said. “Thankfully, I have the energy needed to fight for the people – and stay up past 10 p.m.”
The contrast is stark. While President Trump delivered a vision for American prosperity and security, Suozzi couldn’t be bothered to keep his eyes open.
GOP Rivals Pounce on Embarrassing Display
Fellow Republican challenger Greg Hach turned Suozzi’s public napping into a campaign opportunity, launching a contest asking constituents to guess what was running through “Taxman Tom’s exhausted mind” during his impromptu siesta.
“‘Nothing’ is an acceptable answer,” the Hach campaign quipped—a cutting observation that resonates with voters who feel forgotten by their representative.
The winner receives 10 free trips in or out of Manhattan—a benefit that used to cost nothing but now runs $90 during daylight hours thanks to congestion pricing, another Democratic scheme hammering working families.
Million-Dollar Insider Falls Asleep on the Job
“How much more of this guy do we have to take?” Hach demanded, highlighting the fundamental disconnect between Suozzi’s lifestyle and his constituents’ struggles.
“Tom Suozzi made millions off his insider job in Congress, but he falls asleep during the State of the Union?! This isn’t representation, it’s a slap in the face to the people who pay his salary. It’s disgraceful.”
The criticism lands because it’s true. Suozzi has built a lucrative stock portfolio while in office, all while pushing tax hikes on hardworking New Yorkers.
Suozzi’s Pathetic Excuse
Rather than apologize for his disrespectful display, Suozzi offered a flippant response on social media.
“I have always had a hard time staying awake watching reruns,” he posted, dismissing the President’s address.
The arrogance is breathtaking. Millions of Americans tuned in to hear their President’s plan for the nation’s future, but Suozzi considers himself too sophisticated to pay attention.
A Pattern of Putting Himself First
Republicans have consistently exposed Suozzi’s hypocrisy and self-serving behavior. He champions himself as a moderate while proposing federal income tax hikes on the wealthy—conveniently exempting his own stock trading profits from scrutiny.
His record speaks volumes: higher taxes, insider trading, and now literal sleeping on the job.
Campaign Scrambles for Damage Control
Suozzi’s handlers attempted to spin the embarrassment, with senior campaign adviser Kim Devlin offering a laughable defense.
“Congressman Suozzi will be well-rested as he continues to fight for New York families,” Devlin claimed, attempting to reframe the debacle as strategic rest.
The excuse is as tired as their candidate. Long Island families don’t need a “well-rested” representative—they need one who’s actually awake and working for them.
Time for Change in House District 3
The 3rd Congressional District, covering parts of Nassau County and Queens, deserves better than a dozing Democrat who can’t stay alert during presidential addresses.
Voters face a clear choice: continue with Tired Tom, who sleeps through historic moments while his stock portfolio grows, or elect a Republican who will fight tirelessly for their interests.
LiPetri and Hach are both making compelling cases for why they’re the right choice to retire Suozzi. What’s certain is that whoever emerges from the GOP primary will be wide awake and ready to serve—something Long Island desperately needs.
The Republican nominee will face Suozzi in what promises to be a contentious general election. Given Suozzi’s narrow victory in 2024 and his growing list of embarrassments, this seat is absolutely in play.
Long Island is ready for representation that stays awake on the job. They’re ready for leadership that prioritizes constituent service over stock trading. They’re ready to send Sleepy Suozzi into permanent retirement.
The only question is which Republican will deliver that victory.
