Kareem Khubchandani, better known by his outlandish stage name “LaWhore Vagistan,” will lead classes on topics that celebrate the absurdities of contemporary culture. One of his upcoming courses is titled “RuPaulitics: Drag, Race, and Desire”—a clear indication of the direction Harvard is heading. This is not education; it’s indoctrination dressed up in colorful wigs and flamboyant costumes.

Khubchandani, an associate professor at Tufts University, incorporates his drag persona into his teaching, frequently lecturing as “LaWhore.” He has infamously stated that the choice of his name reflects his Pakistani roots and a ridiculous self-identification that ties cultural identity to crassness. This is not scholarship but rather a parade of self-indulgence.

What’s more, Khubchandani has only two classes lined up—one in the fall titled “Queer Ethnography” and the other in the spring. This minimalist approach to teaching raises further questions about the seriousness with which Harvard embraces its educational responsibilities. With a name like “LaWhore Vagistan,” the focus is decidedly on theatrics rather than genuine academic rigor.

To top this off, this announcement comes just as President Trump managed to unfreeze $2.4 billion in federal grants for Harvard—an agreement that may well have been made with a heavy dose of irony, given that it coincides with hiring someone whose qualifications are less about pedagogy and more about performance art. Is this really how we want our tax dollars spent?
