Minneapolis has turned into a lawless magnet for violent illegal aliens—and President Trump just sent his toughest enforcer to fix it. On Monday, White House Border Czar Tom Homan touched down in the Twin Cities with one mission: scrap the spectacle arrests and zero in on the worst of the worst.
Homan, former ICE director and one of the nation’s hardest-nosed immigration chiefs, wasted no time. He immediately criticized the showboating tactics of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Border Patrol Sector Chief Gregory Bovino, whose flashy arrest numbers did nothing to protect Minnesotans from murderers and child rapists.
Within hours of his arrival—after Alex Pretti’s brutal killing shone a spotlight on rising crime—Homan ordered a complete overhaul of the region’s arrest priorities. He sidelined broad sweeps in favor of surgical strikes against convicted kidnappers, child molesters, armed assailants and document fraudsters.
Federal agents promptly arrested three illegal immigrants with convictions for kidnapping, two with records for child rape, and several more indicted for assaulting officers with firearms. This is enforcement that matters—locking up predators instead of staging photo-ops.
Behind closed doors, Homan insisted on razor-sharp target lists. “We’re not collecting bodies,” he told senior DHS staff. “We’re neutralizing threats.” Source after source confirms the message: collateral arrests of bystanders will be strictly limited—unless they pose immediate danger.
Local officials tried to resist. Democratic Governor Tim Walz agreed to talks but offered no real cooperation. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey dug in, vowing his city “will not enforce federal immigration law.” In effect, Frey is issuing an open-door invitation to criminals.
President Trump responded swiftly. “Mayor Frey is playing with fire,” the president warned. “If local leaders won’t protect their citizens, we will step in and take over.”
Homan has already met with Minnesota’s National Guard commanders and ISPs to secure support. He’s assembling strike teams ready to move at a moment’s notice, with priority lists updated in real time. Policies shifted three times in four hours on Tuesday alone—a level of agility suburbs haven’t seen in decades.
This is the new Republican standard: relentless, precise, uncompromising. Sanctuary policies are no longer tolerated. Criminal aliens are no longer shuffled through bureaucratic loopholes.
Make no mistake: Tom Homan’s arrival marks the end of tolerance for sanctuary soft-balls. Minneapolis, like every American city, must choose—either enforce the law or watch violent offenders roam free. And under President Trump’s watch, there will be nowhere left to run.
