Serial Agitator Ejected from State of the Union After Repeat Performance of Disruptive Tactics
The same left-wing activist who ignored federal officers’ commands and physically impeded an ICE operation in Minneapolis just weeks ago was forcibly removed from President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night—and Representative Ilhan Omar wants you to believe she’s the victim.
Aliya Rahman, invited by the Minnesota congresswoman, was escorted out of the gallery after standing during the President’s address in what Omar characterized as a “silent” protest. Capitol Police charged Rahman with “Unlawful Conduct” following the incident.
But Rahman’s history tells a very different story than the one Omar is selling.
A Pattern of Obstruction
In January, federal immigration enforcement officers physically removed Rahman from her vehicle in Minneapolis after she repeatedly refused lawful orders to clear the area during an ICE operation. Video footage clearly shows Rahman inching her vehicle forward multiple times while officers stood beside it—a dangerous maneuver that could have resulted in serious injury or death.
The Department of Homeland Security didn’t mince words about Rahman’s behavior. She “ignored multiple commands by an officer to move her vehicle away from the scene,” officials stated unequivocally.
ICE doubled down on their assessment in a February social media post that set the record straight: “Aliya Rahman clearly had enough room to move herself and her vehicle out of the way. Officers even walked away from her vehicle, thinking she was going to leave the scene. Instead, she remained at the location, continued to impede our officers, and found out the hard way.”
Professional Activist, Professional Victim
Rahman isn’t some random citizen caught up in unfortunate circumstances. She’s a trained community organizer with deep ties to progressive activist networks.
Her resume reads like a blueprint for left-wing agitation. Rahman worked with the New America think tank’s Open Technology Institute on body-worn camera policy—conveniently positioned to understand exactly how law enforcement surveillance works. Before that, she served as Program Director at Code for Progress, recruiting and training “community organizers of color” for developer positions.
As Field Director of Equality Ohio, she built what the organization describes as a “statewide field program focused on bridging gaps between racial justice organizers, LGBT rights groups, and labor.” Translation: coalition-building for maximum political disruption.
Follow the Money
New America’s funding sources reveal the ideological machinery behind Rahman’s activism. The organization receives active funding from George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, the Ford Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation, among others.
This is the establishment left’s preferred model: wealthy foundations bankrolling professional activists who manufacture incidents, then count on sympathetic politicians like Omar to amplify manufactured narratives of victimhood.
Omar’s Cynical Playbook
The Minnesota congresswoman’s response to Tuesday’s incident follows a predictable pattern. She claims Rahman’s removal represents “a chilling message about the state of our democracy” and demands “a full explanation of why this arrest occurred.”
Omar knows exactly why the arrest occurred. She invited a known agitator with a documented history of defying law enforcement to one of the nation’s most secure events. Rahman disrupted the proceedings. Capitol Police responded appropriately.
Now Omar wants to transform a serial troublemaker into a martyr for “peaceful” protest.
Actions Have Consequences
Rahman’s January encounter with ICE wasn’t about getting to a medical appointment, as she claimed. It was about obstruction. Her presence at the State of the Union wasn’t about silent witness. It was about disruption.
The heavy-handed response Omar decries was entirely proportional to the threat posed by someone who has already demonstrated willingness to physically interfere with federal law enforcement operations. Capitol Police have a responsibility to maintain order and security at presidential addresses—especially when dealing with individuals who have proven themselves willing to escalate confrontations.
Rahman’s claims of injured shoulders requiring hospital treatment? Color us skeptical, given her demonstrated willingness to manufacture victimhood narratives.
The Real Chilling Message
What’s truly chilling isn’t how Rahman was treated. It’s how cynically the progressive left weaponizes manufactured incidents to undermine legitimate law enforcement.
They send trained activists into situations designed to provoke confrontations. When authorities respond appropriately, they cry oppression. Sympathetic politicians amplify the narrative. Friendly media outlets run interference. And the American people are supposed to believe professional agitators are hapless victims of authoritarian overreach.
This isn’t democracy under threat. This is democracy defending itself against those who would abuse its protections to advance a radical agenda.
Rahman made her choices in Minneapolis. She made her choices at the State of the Union. Now she gets to live with the consequences. That’s not oppression. That’s accountability—something the progressive left seems increasingly allergic to recognizing.
