A fugitive illegal alien slammed open the doors of a Chicago daycare Wednesday and dove inside to dodge ICE agents.
Federal officers were executing a targeted traffic stop when the woman’s driver refused to pull over. A high-speed chase through city streets ended at the Rayito de Sol Spanish Immersion Early Learning Center in West Rogers Park.
As the pair bolted from the vehicle, the woman sprinted into the daycare vestibule—no children were in harm’s way—and ICE agents moved in to place her under arrest. The operation lasted mere seconds and never penetrated the school’s classrooms.
Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley seized on grainy video to condemn ICE, falsely claiming agents “snatched a preschool teacher without a warrant in front of children.” His accusation ignored the simple truth: ICE did not target a school. The suspect fled inside of her own volition.
Within minutes, the Department of Homeland Security publicly corrected Quigley’s distortions. “Congressman, you are deliberately misrepresenting the facts,” DHS posted on X. “ICE law enforcement did NOT target a daycare and were only at this location because the female illegal alien fled inside.”
Records show the Colombian national crossed the border unlawfully in 2023. Her two children were smuggled into the U.S. just last month. During her arrest, she lied about her identity and feigned ignorance of the man driving her, claiming she “just picked him up from a bus stop.”
Under the Trump administration, policies barring ICE from schools and churches were rescinded—but the agency has repeatedly affirmed it will not raid classrooms. “ICE is not going into schools to arrest children,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin declared in September. “We will, however, pursue dangerous criminals who try to hide behind innocent kids.”
Americans expect law enforcement to follow perpetrators wherever they flee—whether that’s a public street, a shopping center or, yes, a school vestibule. Allowing illegal aliens to dodge the law by hiding among children would undermine every principle of public safety and sovereignty. ICE agents did their duty. The facts leave no room for partisan spin.
