Crockett Plays Race Card After Crushing Primary Defeat, Refuses to Unite Behind Democrat Senate Nominee

Rep. Jasmine Crockett suffered a humiliating primary defeat in March—and she’s still blaming racism instead of looking in the mirror.

The Texas Democrat, who entered the Senate primary as the supposed frontrunner, got demolished by state Rep. James Talarico despite weeks of polling showing her with a commanding lead. Now, months later, she’s trotting out the oldest excuse in the progressive playbook: racial grievance.

“It was a racist race. It is what it is, right?” Crockett declared, dismissing her loss as nothing more than voter bigotry. “We know what this country is.”

This is the modern Democrat Party in a nutshell—when voters reject your candidacy, don’t accept responsibility. Don’t examine whether your radical positions alienated mainstream Texans. Just cry racism and move on.

The Stunning Refusal to Unify

What makes Crockett’s tantrum even more remarkable is her outright refusal to support her party’s Senate nominee against Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

She’s skipping the Texas Democrat Party convention. She won’t commit to campaigning for Talarico. When asked directly about supporting his Senate bid, Crockett was dismissive: “I have no idea. I am more focused on down-ballot races in general.”

Translation: She’d rather see Republicans hold the seat than swallow her pride and work for party unity.

Crockett even admitted she hasn’t seen enthusiasm for Talarico among black voters. “I’ve not heard a bunch of kumbaya,” she said. “People don’t seem to be convinced at this point.”

This is political malpractice—and it exposes the fractures tearing apart the Democrat coalition in Texas.

The Self-Serving Excuses Keep Coming

Crockett rejected any suggestion that she should have campaigned alongside Talarico or helped build momentum for his general election fight. Instead, she claimed her real contribution was endorsing five black candidates in down-ballot runoff races.

“The best thing that I can do for James Talarico isn’t me standing on a stage with him,” Crockett insisted.

She then dismissed criticism with contempt: “People keep trying to say, ‘Well, Jasmine has to go and hold his hand.’ No, I don’t.”

This is the attitude of someone more interested in nursing grudges than winning elections. It’s also revealing about how identity politics has poisoned the Democrat Party from within.

Crockett’s racial grievance narrative falls apart under the slightest scrutiny. Democrat primary voters—her own party—chose Talarico over her. These weren’t Republicans crossing over to sabotage her candidacy. These were progressives who simply preferred another candidate.

The truth is simpler than Crockett wants to admit: Texas Democrat primary voters saw through her act.

They recognized that her brand of racialized grievance politics wouldn’t play in a general election against a Republican incumbent. They understood that her confrontational style and radical positions would alienate the moderate and independent voters necessary to win statewide.

So they made the pragmatic choice—and now Crockett is punishing them for it.

Her refusal to unify behind Talarico isn’t just petty. It’s a gift to Republicans and specifically to Sen. Cornyn, who must be watching this Democrat civil war with satisfaction.

The November Reckoning Approaches

Crockett’s bitter reaction previews what’s coming in November. When Talarico loses to Cornyn—and he will lose—Democrats will blame racism, voter suppression, and everything except their own failed policies and candidates.

They won’t acknowledge that Texans rejected their open borders agenda, their hostility to oil and gas, their embrace of woke cultural extremism, and their economic policies that have driven inflation and made life harder for working families.
