Ryan Coogler’s horror epic Sinners just rewrote Oscar history with a staggering 16 nominations—more than any film in Academy history. Hollywood’s elite have spoken: nothing else comes close.

Sinners dominates every major category, from Best Picture to Visual Effects. No gimmick, no pandering—just a masterclass in storytelling, technical skill and on-screen bravado.

Trailing in its dust is the ultra-woke marathon One Battle After Another, which picked up 13 nods. Behind it, Frankenstein, Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value each landed nine. The lineup proves that Hollywood still rewards spectacle and pedigree—even when it’s draped in political posturing.

Meanwhile, some shockers landed squarely in the “snub” column. Wicked: For Good—fresh off ten nominations and two wins last year—was shut out. And Paul Mescal’s headline turn in Hamnet was inexplicably ignored.

Conan O’Brien returns to the Oscar stage on Sunday, March 15, live on ABC and Hulu. Expect polished bits, eager liberal applause, and another chance for Hollywood to pat itself on the back.
