A shocking lapse in judgment led to the release of a dangerous migrant sex offender onto the streets of London.
Hadush Kebatu, an Ethiopian national convicted of multiple offenses, including the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, was mistakenly let go by authorities. This blunder allowed a predator to roam free, igniting a two-day manhunt that culminated in his arrest in Finsbury Park.
Kebatu’s crimes are extensive and horrifying. He was not only found guilty of assaulting a young girl but also faced sentencing that included a twelve-month prison term and a five-year sexual harm prevention order. The very fact that this man was released is nothing short of a scandal.
Initially, Kebatu was supposed to be transferred to an immigration detention center for deportation. Instead, bureaucratic negligence facilitated his release from HMP Chelmsford, endangering the public and sparking outrage across the nation.
Following his capture, Health Secretary Wes Streeting declared that Justice Secretary David Lammy has ordered an investigation into this egregious error. Streeting stressed that such a failure “never should have happened.” The government must take accountability for its mishaps, and the public deserves to know how this could occur.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has assured the public that Kebatu will be deported “as quickly as possible.” However, this response feels like a weak attempt to remedy the harm caused by a gross oversight.
Commander James Conway, who led the Metropolitan Police’s operation, praised the rapid investigation that brought Kebatu back into custody. While we commend the police for their diligence, the fact remains that this dangerous individual was allowed to slip through the cracks in the first place.
Kebatu’s case has reignited nationwide protests against the government’s reckless asylum seeker housing scheme. Concerned citizens, particularly mothers and families, are enraged by the prospect of unvetted foreign males being settled within their communities. The safety of our children must come first, and every parent knows this instinctively.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has rightly pointed out that Kebatu’s release exemplifies a system that is fundamentally broken. His party has vowed to take decisive action to shut down migrant hotels and deport all illegal entrants. It’s time to prioritize our citizens and secure our borders.
