The New York Times Rejects DHS Ad Featuring Convicted Criminal Illegal Aliens—While Running Anti-Trump Screeds

The New York Times has refused to publish a Department of Homeland Security advertisement featuring mugshots of 30 convicted criminals arrested during ICE operations in Minnesota—individuals whose rap sheets include domestic violence, rape, and homicide.

Let that sink in. America’s so-called “paper of record” won’t run an ad showing the faces of violent offenders that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents risked their lives to remove from American streets.

The proposed full-page advertisement would have displayed the results of Operation Metro Surge, which netted thousands of criminal aliens in the Minneapolis area. The ad’s message was straightforward and factual: “These are some of the 10,000 criminals ICE law enforcement has risked their lives to arrest in Minnesota.”

It continued with an equally direct statement: “Sanctuary cities like Minneapolis protect criminals instead of handing them over,” concluding with the tagline, “ICE saves innocent lives.”

No Explanation, No Transparency

The Daily Wire obtained January 26 emails between Homeland Security and its media placement service revealing the Times’ rejection. The paper claimed it was “not able to accept the ad in its current form” but refused to provide specifics.

When DHS requested official documentation explaining the rejection, the Times denied that request too. Instead, the paper insisted feedback would only be provided through informal email channels—a convenient way to avoid creating a paper trail.

The Times offered the tepid excuse that it receives numerous ad submissions daily and needs “one or two business days to fully review” each one. Weeks later, Homeland Security still hasn’t received a legitimate justification for the rejection.

Media Blackout on Public Safety

“The media’s blackout is undeniable: they refuse to report on the vital work ICE is doing to remove dangerous public safety threats—murderers, rapists, gang members, and child predators—from Minneapolis streets and communities nationwide,” Assistant Secretary for Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.

McLaughlin didn’t mince words about the Times’ decision: “The New York Times won’t even run a straightforward ad showing the violent criminals that our brave law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to deport. The New York Times’ deliberate suppression of public safety information should outrage every American.”

She’s absolutely right. When the press actively shields heinous offenders while ignoring or downplaying the officers protecting us, it betrays the public trust and endangers lives.

The Hypocrisy Is Staggering

The Times’ selective advertising standards reveal everything you need to know about media bias in America today.

The paper had no problem running a full-page ad from an 80-year-old man titled “A PLEA FOR DONALD TRUMP TO RESIGN.” That apparently met their editorial standards.

Last June, Walmart heiress Christy Walton purchased ad space calling on Americans to “mobilize” in anti-Trump “No Kings” protests. The Times gladly took her money.

That same month, The Onion ran an ad slamming Congress and the Trump administration, declaring “Congress, Now More Than Ever The Nation Needs Your Cowardice.” No problem there.

During the Bush administration in 2007, MoveOn.org ran the infamous “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” ad attacking a sitting military commander during wartime. The Times printed it without hesitation.

The Pattern Is Clear

The New York Times will happily publish partisan attacks on Republican presidents and military leaders. It will gladly amplify left-wing activism and resistance movements.

But an ad showing the actual faces of convicted criminals—murderers, rapists, child predators—removed from American communities by federal law enforcement? That’s where the Times draws the line.

This isn’t journalism. It’s activism masquerading as editorial discretion.

Democrats Demand ICE Be Handcuffed

The timing of this rejection is particularly telling. Operation Metro Surge has sent resources and personnel into Minneapolis, resulting in thousands of arrests. Anti-ICE protests have intensified throughout the region in response to legitimate law enforcement operations.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and numerous other Democrats are now demanding major reforms to ICE and Border Patrol. They want the Trump administration to switch from administrative to judicial warrants—a change that would dramatically reduce the number of arrests ICE can make and protect criminal aliens from deportation.

These demands surged after protests intensified in recent weeks. Democrats aren’t calling for better public safety. They’re calling for less enforcement against dangerous criminals who happen to be in this country illegally.

ICE Operations Nationwide

Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations have been underway nationwide since President Donald Trump took office. The administration has made border security and interior enforcement top priorities, reversing years of neglect and deliberate non-enforcement.

Operation Metro Surge represents exactly the kind of targeted law enforcement that keeps communities safe. These aren’t random sweeps. These are operations focused on removing individuals with criminal convictions—people who have already demonstrated they pose a threat to public safety.

The fact that sanctuary jurisdictions like Minneapolis actively obstruct these operations should alarm every American. These policies don’t protect vulnerable immigrants. They protect criminals who prey on everyone, including legal immigrants and American citizens.

The Public Has a Right to Know

Americans deserve to see the results of their tax dollars at work. They deserve to know that ICE agents are removing violent offenders from their communities.

The New York Times’ refusal to run this advertisement isn’t about advertising standards. It’s about suppressing information that contradicts the left’s preferred narrative on immigration enforcement.

The Times wants Americans to view ICE as jackbooted thugs separating families. They don’t want you to see the mugshots of rapists and murderers being removed from American streets.

This is media manipulation at its most cynical. The Times isn’t protecting journalistic integrity—they’re protecting an ideological agenda that puts criminal aliens ahead of American safety.

The Real Betrayal

When a newspaper refuses to publish factual information about public safety because it conflicts with their political preferences, they cease to function as journalists. They become propagandists.

The New York Times has made its choice clear. They’ll run ads attacking Republican presidents. They’ll amplify left-wing activism. They’ll provide a platform for anyone who shares their worldview.

But showing Americans the faces of violent criminals removed from their communities by brave law enforcement officers? That’s apparently too much truth for the Times to handle.

The American people see through this charade. They understand what’s happening. And they’re responding by demanding their elected officials support ICE, secure the border, and put American safety first.

No amount of media suppression will change that reality.
