Nigeria’s Radical Islamists Slaughter 10,000 Christians in a Year—and America Will Not Look Away
At least 10,000 Nigerian Christians were butchered last year alone, entire villages burned to the ground, and worshippers gunned down in Sunday services. This is religious genocide on a massive scale—and President Donald J. Trump refuses to let the world close its eyes.
In a bold Truth Social proclamation, Trump exposed the jihadist bloodlust ravaging Nigeria. “We cannot stand by while such atrocities continue,” he declared. He ordered House appropriators to launch a full-scale investigation and vowed to slap Nigeria with a “Country of Particular Concern” designation for tolerating “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom.”
Rap icon and outspoken Christian Nicki Minaj hailed the president’s leadership. “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” she posted. “No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz echoed Minaj’s praise. “Every brother and sister of Christ must band together and say, ‘Enough!’” he said. “We cannot allow this to continue.”
The Islamist threat in Nigeria comes from multiple fronts: Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and terrorist Fulani militias. Mark Walker, Trump’s ambassador-designate for International Religious Freedom, warned Fox News: “It’s not thousands—it’s closer to 8,000 Christians killed each year. The Nigerian government has been nowhere to be found.”
Here’s what decisive U.S. action looks like:
• Redesignate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” forcing sanctions on perpetrators and their enablers.
• Launch a congressional inquiry under the International Religious Freedom Act, shining a spotlight on radical Islamist networks.
• Provide emergency humanitarian aid and security assistance to at-risk Christian communities.
• Empower regional partners to root out jihadist cells across Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The House Appropriations Committee was unequivocal: “This administration will not tolerate the scourge of anti-Christian violence.” Their plan is to fast-track full-year appropriations bills that prioritize religious freedom and funding for armed escorts protecting churches and villages.
America’s moral leadership demands action, not platitudes. President Trump is delivering both the spotlight and the policy muscle. As Nicki Minaj urged, “Let’s lift every persecuted Christian up in prayer—but also in action. No more silence. No more inaction. God bless those who stand against evil, and may justice roll on like a mighty river.”
