A gang of young thugs—barely out of their teens—has unleashed a reign of terror across Brooklyn. These so-called “Road 2 Riches” members have been implicated in a shocking string of violent crimes, including the shooting of a defenseless 68-year-old woman. This case exemplifies the urgent need for decisive action against gang violence in our communities.

Authorities have unleashed a comprehensive 68-count indictment against nine members of this gang, all of whom are twenty years old or younger. This brazen criminal syndicate has allegedly orchestrated ten shootings over the past few years, often targeting innocent civilians in their reckless quest for power and notoriety.

The Brooklyn District Attorney made it clear: “This kind of indiscriminate gun violence instills fear in the hearts of Brooklyn residents.” This indictment wasn’t just critical; it’s a clarion call to restore safety and order in our neighborhoods.

In one shocking incident, 18-year-old King Downing fired shots inside a bodega, mistakenly believing two unarmed siblings to be rival gang members. The tragic outcome? Abdoulaye Ba, only 24, was shot in the head and lost his life. The sheer audacity of these criminals is appalling.

Further demonstrating their reckless bravado, R2R celebrated this murder on social media, with posts bragging about “smoking” the victim. This isn’t merely criminal behavior; it’s a betrayal of every principle our society upholds.

In another incident, DeAnthony Ortiz, also 18, targeted two men brazenly in broad daylight, resulting in the injury of an innocent elderly woman simply returning home from grocery shopping. She could have been anyone’s grandmother—a victim of gang violence born from lawlessness.

This violence doesn’t stop there. Other shootings have injured children and put countless lives at risk. A 14-year-old boy was shot last March, demonstrating the horrifying reality: younger and younger individuals are either becoming victims or perpetrators of crime.

Gang violence is rampant in our cities, and R2R is embroiled in conflicts with other gangs, creating an environment of fear and chaos. These ongoing turf wars are a testament to the urgent need for stricter laws to combat this growing menace.

Mayor Eric Adams has rightly condemned these young criminals but has gone a step further, calling for tougher laws that would empower law enforcement to take back our streets. “This indictment reflects not only their actions but an indictment on our city,” he stated emphatically.

The nine suspects are facing serious charges, including second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. It’s time for our leaders to step up; the safety of our communities hangs in the balance. Enough is enough!
