Queensland’s Minister for Women, Fiona Simpson, has boldly reinstated the state’s unequivocal definition of a woman. This action puts an end to the previous administration’s misguided expansion of this definition to include “all people who identify as a woman or girl.” Such radical interpretations undermine the very essence of womanhood, and it’s about time we reclaim the narrative.

Under the failed Labor government, the Human Rights Act was modified to allow for an alarming ease of changing one’s gender on official documentation. Consequently, children as young as twelve could alter their birth certificate without the necessity of surgical intervention. This reckless policy threatens the safety and rights of women, a fact that has been loudly contested by conservatives.

Despite the previous Women’s Minister’s unsubstantiated claims to the contrary, there is a clear and present danger to women’s rights and safety arising from these reckless changes. The Liberal National Party (LNP) and the Katter Australian Party stood firmly against these erroneous reforms, recognizing the risks involved.

In a recent parliamentary exchange, KAP leader Robbie Katter sought clarity from Minister Simpson regarding the official definition of ‘woman.’ Her straightforward response left no room for ambiguity: “A woman is an adult female human being.” Furthermore, she highlighted that “A transgender person is someone whose gender identity is opposite to the sex the person was born with.” By reaffirming this definition, Simpson has taken a decisive step to protect women’s rights and safeguard our values.

Questions surrounding the number of individuals who have changed their gender on birth certificates have emerged since the LNP assumed power. The Attorney-General reported that such data is withheld as sensitive information. However, the mere fact that minors can pursue these changes under parental approval is both alarming and troubling.

In a society that should champion clear definitions and protect the sanctity of womanhood, the reinstatement of a biological definition is a crucial victory. It’s time for leaders with the courage to uphold truth and protect the rights of all women, unequivocally and boldly. We must continue to push back against any attempts to muddy these waters. The future of women’s rights depends on it.
