California Democrats Have Declared Open War on ICE—At Our Peril

California’s Democratic leadership has ripped up the rulebook and vowed to criminally prosecute federal immigration agents, all in the name of political grandstanding after the tragic killing of a Minnesota nurse. This reckless crusade threatens public safety, ties the hands of law enforcement and signals to every cartel and smuggler that Golden State politicians have abandoned border security.

Rep. Ro Khanna made national headlines in Minneapolis, calling ICE officers “criminals” and demanding Congress strip their funding, impeach Attorney General Pam Bondi and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. He even compared his lawsuits against immigration authorities to the high-profile Epstein litigation, promising more courtroom theatrics instead of concrete solutions.

Not to be outdone, Rep. Eric Swalwell thundered that he will direct local prosecutors to revoke ICE agents’ driver’s licenses and bring charges of battery, false imprisonment—even murder—against any agent who dares enforce our laws. His message to law-abiding officers: keep your distance or face legal ruin.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins warned that Democratic-run cities must be ready for a flood of ICE activity and shouldn’t hesitate to haul agents into court. Her blunt reminder—that “absolute immunity” is a myth—underscores California’s growing hostility toward federal authority.

In Washington, House Democrats narrowly failed to block a $10 billion ICE appropriation, but all California members voted against it except seven. Their unified “no” vote is a clear declaration: open borders and weakened enforcement are electoral priorities.

Senate Democrats, spearheaded by Sen. Adam Schiff, have vowed to stake themselves on a government shutdown rather than fund what they call President Trump’s “immigration crackdown.” Schiff flatly stated: “I won’t give ICE another dime,” threatening chaos in D.C. over public safety.

At the state level, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law banning law enforcement—including federal agents—from wearing face coverings on duty. Los Angeles’ Board of Supervisors backed him with its own mask ban. Both measures aim to expose and shame officers rather than support their work.

The Trump administration has rightly sued California, arguing these mandates endanger officer safety and hamper critical operations. A federal judge will soon decide if Democrats can block ICE from protecting Americans.

California’s political class has chosen ideology over common sense, prioritizing headlines over homeland security. Republicans must stand firm: enforce our laws, secure our borders and defend the brave men and women who keep our streets safe. Any politician who empowers criminals by hobbling ICE is selling out every Californian.
