In April, New York City pushed the boundaries of artistic expression with the unveiling of the colossal statue “Grounded in the Stars” in Times Square. This 12-foot-tall bronze sculpture portrays an anonymous, overweight black woman in casual attire, defiantly posed with hands on her hips. The artist, Thomas J. Price, claims it challenges entrenched norms around monument representation, framing it as a necessary confrontation with the alleged systemic erasure of marginalized bodies.
This isn’t just art; it’s a glaring example of the woke agenda invading our public spaces. The backlash was immediate and fierce, echoing across various demographics. Many New Yorkers voiced their disdain, with calls for removal flooding in from all corners of the city.
Yet, the city’s refusal to heed public sentiment didn’t stop there. In the same month, it launched another bizarre installation: a 10-foot fountain shaped like a grotesque pink foot adorned with red-lipped mouths and protruding tongues. This eyesore, crafted by Mika Rottenberg, was introduced as a “quirky twist on classical fountains,” but it instead resembles a disturbing caricature of art.
Rick Burgess, host of BlazeTV’s “The Rick Burgess Show,” recently visited New York and fortunately missed this bubble-gum pink monstrosity. However, his content producer, Chris Adler, did not. During an anniversary trip, Adler encountered the absurd leg fountain, which he later showcased on air.
Observing it closely, Rick remarked on the odd shape of the leg, humorously drawing attention to its phallic appearance. “It’s crucial to examine the toes,” he quipped, as he noted how crowds from the Pride parade gathered around it, almost reverently. “I hate to burst your bubble; it’s just a leg,” he laughed.
Adler chimed in, expressing disbelief at the absurdity on display. This encounter serves as a testament to the bizarre state of public art we are subjected to today.
