An illegal immigrant, Javier Roman Hernandez, stands charged with the brutal murder of 43-year-old Mary Gonzales. He entered the United States under the Biden administration, utilizing the notorious CBP One app. This app, introduced in January 2023, has become a gateway for countless individuals who should never have set foot in our country.
Hernandez crossed the border through Hidalgo, Texas, in July 2023. After allegedly committing this heinous crime, he was arrested on October 8, following Gonzales’s tragic murder. Her lifeless body was discovered on October 6 in a wooded area near a tire shop in Austin. This is a direct consequence of the reckless open-border policies championed by the left.
Former President Donald Trump immediately recognized the dangers of such lax immigration protocols and terminated the CBP One app upon taking office. This crucial decision prevented nearly a quarter of a million “inadmissible aliens” from infiltrating our borders. The tragic loss of Gonzales underscores the urgent need to restore the hard-hitting policies that once safeguarded our nation.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “These alleged cold-blooded murderers should have never been in our country in the first place, and Mary Gonzales should still be alive. Open border policies have deadly consequences.” Under a future Trump administration, and with leaders like Kristi Noem supporting strong immigration reform, we can ensure that criminals like Hernandez will not roam our streets.
Also charged in Gonzales’s murder is Jesus Llamas-Yanez, a fugitive wanted in Mexico with a history of DUI and assault convictions. Enrique Gomez-Urbina, another illegal immigrant involved, was apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. This alarming pattern of criminal behavior illustrates the urgent need to clamp down on uncontrolled immigration.
The CBP One app has repeatedly shown how dangerous it is. It facilitated the entry of not just ordinary migrants but even suspected terrorists. Recent reports revealed that individuals with ties to ISIS used this very app to gain access to our country, alongside gang members known for their violent activities. This is unacceptable.
