Minnesota Democrats’ Stunning Betrayal: The Death of Common Sense and the Rule of the Radical Left
Rep. Angie Craig just publicly regretted voting to detain criminal illegal aliens—including those who assault law enforcement officers—and that admission tells you everything you need to know about who really controls the Democrat Party in Minnesota.
The moderate Democrat is extinct in the North Star State. What remains is a radicalized political machine that answers to one constituency: the far-Left activists emerging from the wealthy, white, liberal suburbs of the Twin Cities who demand ideological purity at any cost.
Gone are the days of “Minnesota Nice.” In its place stands an extremist regime willing to sacrifice public safety, common sense, and the lives of innocent Americans on the altar of progressive virtue signaling.
The Race to the Bottom
The current Senate race perfectly encapsulates Minnesota’s leftward lurch. With Senator Tina Smith retiring, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and Rep. Angie Craig are locked in a competition to see who can sprint furthest left—and fastest.
Both candidates champion “girl power” when convenient. Yet they simultaneously grovel before trans activists who deny biological reality and abortion extremists who celebrate terminating pregnancies up to the moment of birth. The hypocrisy is staggering. The danger to women and girls is real.
But Craig’s recent capitulation represents a new low, even for Minnesota Democrats.
The Laken Riley Act Betrayal
Craig initially voted for the Laken Riley Act—the first bill President Donald Trump signed in his second term. The legislation expanded detention authority for non-citizen aliens charged with or convicted of crimes, including assaulting law enforcement officers, while their immigration proceedings are pending.
This is common sense law enforcement. These are not jaywalkers. These are individuals who have committed crimes serious enough to warrant federal attention, including violent offenses against the very officers sworn to protect our communities.
Yet after standing “side by side with protesters” in Minneapolis—conveniently opposite ICE agents doing their jobs—Craig announced her “regret” for supporting the bill. She now claims that giving ICE any new authority under this administration was “the wrong decision.”
Let that sink in. A sitting congresswoman regrets voting to detain criminal aliens who assault police officers.
Where Are the Victims?
Craig’s hand-wringing commentary makes no mention of the victims of these criminals—American citizens who suffered violence, assault, rape, and murder at the hands of illegal aliens who should have been detained but weren’t.
Thanks to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s sanctuary policies, dangerous criminal aliens roamed free as “neighbors” instead of being held in local jails where they belonged. Real people paid the price for this ideological stubbornness. Real families buried loved ones. Real communities suffered.
But in Craig’s moral universe, the protesters outside the Whipple Federal Building matter more than the victims of violent crime.
The Extremist Purity Test
Flanagan’s response to Craig’s walk-back proves the moderate Democrat is finished in Minnesota. Rather than defending common-sense immigration enforcement, Flanagan pounced, posting video of Craig’s initial support for the bill with the damning assessment: “Nothing can undo the damage that has been done.”
This is the new Democrat standard: Supporting legislation to detain violent criminal aliens is unforgivable. Protecting American citizens is “damage” that cannot be undone.
As Michele Tafoya, a Republican seeking the Senate seat, correctly stated: “Minnesotans want common sense. We want law and order. But we are run by far Left career politicians who put their own careers ahead of the safety of innocent, law-abiding Minnesotans. Some of them are crazy, some of them are cowards and some of them are both.”
Tafoya added: “Angie Craig turning her back on the Laken Riley Act because her far Left base demands it is a craven act. Moderate Democrats have gone extinct in Minnesota.”
She’s absolutely right.
The Walz Bait-and-Switch
The transformation of Tim Walz from folksy Everyman to radical leftist governor should serve as a warning to voters nationwide. During campaigns—both statewide and in his disastrous vice presidential bid alongside Kamala Harris—Walz cultivated an image complete with vintage trucks, Mountain Dew, and hunting gear.
The reality? His record reveals extremist policies and outright contempt for the average Minnesotans he claimed to represent. Walz signed executive orders protecting transgender procedures on minors. He presided over the transformation of Minnesota into a sanctuary state. He publicly compared ICE officers to Nazis and the Gestapo.
This is the new Democrat playbook: Campaign as a moderate, govern as a radical.
A National Pattern of Deception
California Governor Gavin Newsom appears on conservative platforms projecting moderation while governing over a state experiencing mass exodus due to crime, homelessness, and crushing regulations.
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger delivered a State of the Union rebuttal dripping with moderate rhetoric. The reality? She’s proposing massive statewide tax hikes and criticized immigration enforcement to the point of denying an ICE detainer for an illegal immigrant with over 30 arrests accused of stabbing a 41-year-old woman to death at a bus stop in Fairfax County.
Even New York City’s socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani deployed “affordability” buzzwords to disguise sky-high tax policies and his anti-Israel extremism.
The pattern is unmistakable. Democrats campaign on moderation and competence. Once elected, they implement radical policies that endanger citizens, burden taxpayers, and prioritize ideology over reality.
The Extremist Agenda Unmasked
The far-Left agenda brooks no dissent and permits no moderation:
- Unhindered hormone treatments and surgical procedures on minors for sex transitions
- Unlimited abortion up to the moment of birth
- Males competing against females in sports
- Opening bathrooms and locker rooms to all “genders”
- Sanctuary policies that shield violent criminal aliens from federal law enforcement
Now add to this list: Regret for voting to detain criminal aliens who assault police officers.
These aren’t fringe positions relegated to college campuses. These are governing priorities implemented by elected Democrats who control state legislatures, governorships, and congressional delegations.
The Moderate Democrat’s Obituary
Rest in peace to the moderate Democrat who understood the catastrophic failures of the Biden administration’s open border policies. Who recognized the damage of unchecked illegal immigration: rising crime, ballooning welfare burdens, failed assimilation, and the deaths of innocent Americans. Who worked toward common-sense solutions and occasionally voted with Republicans when those solutions made sense.
That Democrat is extinct. High-profile wins by radicals like Mamdani and Spanberger have emboldened the progressive wing to the point that an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez presidential bid in 2028 is not only possible but increasingly likely.
Just ask former Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips, who dared challenge Biden in the primary and was promptly branded a traitor. Or Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, whose support for Israel earned him protests and condemnation—including mob action at his events.
Bucking the far-Left doesn’t just cost you politically in today’s Democrat Party. It makes you a target for harassment, protest, and worse. Anti-ICE mobs have stormed churches over alleged ties to immigration enforcement. Disagreement with the extremist agenda is treated as fascism deserving any response, no matter how violent or unhinged.
The Question Ahead
How far left are Democrats willing to go?
If current trends hold, there is no limit. Extremists control the steering wheel. After flattening any remaining moderates in their party, they’ve put the truck in reverse, ready for another round of ideological purges.
For Democrats like Craig, this means publicly regretting votes for common-sense law enforcement. For Flanagan, it means attacking fellow Democrats for insufficient radicalism. For Minnesota voters, it means choosing between a party that has abandoned reason and Republicans offering common sense, public safety, and respect for the rule of law.
The choice has never been clearer. The contrast has never been starker. And the consequences of getting it wrong have never been more severe.
Minnesota deserves leaders who put citizens before criminals, safety before sanctuary, and reality before radical ideology. The current crop of Democrats has proven they are incapable of meeting that basic standard.
The extremists are in charge. And they’re just getting started.
