Tragedy Strikes: Influencer Chrystofer A. Whyte Gunned Down at 18
In a heartbreaking incident, 18-year-old TikTok sensation Chrystofer A. Whyte was brutally shot down at a New Jersey beach last month. With over 100,000 followers, his life was cut tragically short, leaving a community in shock and mourning.
Law enforcement swiftly acted, arresting two individuals tied to this heinous crime. One of the suspects, whose identity remains confidential due to his age, has been charged with murder and is currently detained at a juvenile facility. The other, 18-year-old Dwayne Exilus, faces multiple charges, including conspiracy related to illegal weapon possession.
The shooting unfolded at Pier Village in Long Branch, where police responded to emergency calls at 8:58 PM on June 12. They found Whyte suffering from a single gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, but the events leading up to this tragedy paint a chilling picture. Earlier that same day, Whyte shared two poignant videos with his followers, offering a glimpse into a bright young life lost too soon. In one video, he advised, “Stay away from ppl that ignore you until they need you,” a message that resonates deeply in the wake of his untimely death.
Adding to the sorrow, Whyte, also a student-athlete who excelled in football and wrestling at Woodbridge High School, is remembered as a vibrant and enthusiastic individual. His former football coach, Joseph LaSala, expressed his heartbreak, recalling Whyte’s energy and respectfulness that stood out on and off the field.
In response to this profound loss, close friend Jaiden Roche launched a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs, which has already surpassed $16,000—an indication of the impact Whyte had on his community. Roche reflected this sentiment, stating, “He meant so much to everyone… It’s my duty to make sure he goes out with a bang and a beautiful last goodbye.”
This tragic event underscores an urgent need for increased attention to violence in our communities. Lives are being lost, and it’s time to take a stand. The safety of our neighborhoods must become a priority, for tragedies like this must not become the new normal.
