Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Minneapolis are under siege. Organized mobs have repeatedly smashed into ICE vehicles, hurled projectiles at agents, and driven federal lawmen from the field—while state and city leaders stand idly by.
Governor Tim Walz has publicly refused to deploy Minnesota resources to protect federal officers. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has cast these violent rioters as “protesters,” even attending fundraisers that bolster their ranks. Their message is clear: let lawbreakers run wild.
President Trump stepped into the void this week and delivered an unambiguous ultimatum. “If Minnesota’s corrupt politicians will not enforce federal law,” he declared, “I will invoke the Insurrection Act and restore order at once.” No more platitudes. No more empty promises.
The Insurrection Act of 1807 empowers the president to override state inaction, federalize the Guard, and deploy active-duty troops when civil authorities collapse. George H.W. Bush used it to quell the L.A. riots in 1992. The law has teeth—and Mr. Trump is ready to bite.
Video after video shows rioters smashing car windows, hurling bottles, and physically assaulting ICE agents trying to process illegal entrants. Minneapolis police have been ordered to “stand down,” a directive that has sent a green light to extremist agitators.
Unchecked, this riot culture will metastasize. Federal facilities will burn. Communities will fracture. The First Amendment grants the right to dissent—but it does not license violence, looting, or the obstruction of lawful officers.
Minnesota’s leaders have chosen political posturing over public safety. They claim sanctuary for all comers while betraying the very citizens they swore to protect. This is not compassion—it is capitulation.
President Trump’s promise to deploy the military is no idle threat. It’s a sober reminder: the federal government will not tolerate open rebellion in any red or blue state. Law and order is not negotiable.
The time for talk has ended. Minnesota’s rampaging mobs will face the full weight of federal authority unless state officials finally honor their oaths. America demands—and deserves—peace under law.
