Wisconsin’s Socialist Gubernatorial Frontrunner Wanted to “Cancel Thanksgiving” — And That’s Just the Beginning

The Democratic Party’s likely nominee for Wisconsin governor once declared that Americans should stop celebrating Thanksgiving, dismissing the cherished national holiday as nothing more than “colonialism and the original superspreader event.”

Francesca Hong’s shocking proclamation came in a now-deleted 2020 social media post that reveals the radical ideology driving today’s Democratic Party — even in America’s heartland.

“Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621,” Hong wrote without hesitation or nuance.

The Socialist Making Her Move

Hong isn’t hiding her extremism. She’s embracing it.

Backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, Hong has surged to frontrunner status by championing a laundry list of far-left policies that would fundamentally transform Wisconsin’s economy and society. We’re talking race-based grants for social workers, government-run grocery stores, and a state-controlled bank.

This is socialism, plain and simple. And Wisconsin Democrats are lining up behind it.

Hong proudly describes her socialist agenda as ensuring “working-class people have their fair share” — the kind of euphemistic language that historically precedes economic disaster wherever it’s implemented.

The “Folx” Who Want to Remake America

Hong’s Thanksgiving post didn’t just attack a beloved American tradition. It deployed the progressive buzzword “folx” — a deliberately misspelled term designed to signal allegiance to LGBTQ+ activism and other fashionable left-wing causes.

“If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed indigenous folx and women, so be it,” Hong wrote, conflating a harvest celebration with disease transmission in a tortured display of woke reasoning.

Conservative commentator Stephen Miller summed up the absurdity perfectly with a single word response: “‘Folx.'”

The post exposes the radical revisionist history that has captured the Democratic Party. Traditional American values? Colonial oppression. National unity around shared holidays? Problematic celebrations of genocide.

This is the worldview Hong brings to Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race.

Panic at Culver’s: When Old White People Are Too Much

If Hong’s attack on Thanksgiving wasn’t disqualifying enough, another resurfaced post reveals an even more disturbing mindset for someone seeking to govern all Wisconsinites.

In 2019, Hong admitted to experiencing an “anxiety attack” at a Culver’s restaurant because there were “too many old white people” present.

Let that sink in. A Democratic gubernatorial candidate had a panic attack triggered by elderly white customers at one of Wisconsin’s most beloved restaurant chains.

“I ate two bites of my kid’s cheeseburger at a Culver’s in black river falls and told him they ran out of ice cream. Mostly just wanted to leave bc I was on the verge of a anxiety attack…to many old white people who didn’t think we spoke english,” Hong wrote in the now-infamous post.

Former White House Principal Deputy Communications Director Alex Pfeiffer delivered the obvious observation: “Bold choice for Democrats in Wisconsin running someone statewide who gets a panic attack at Culver’s at the sight of ‘old white people.'”

Indeed. Wisconsin’s population is approximately 81% white, with a significant senior population. Hong’s casual admission of racial anxiety doesn’t just reveal poor judgment — it exposes a fundamental disconnect with the very people she aspires to lead.

The Socialist Policy Agenda

Hong’s controversial social media history would be concerning enough on its own. But combined with her actual policy platform, it paints a picture of the most radical gubernatorial candidate Wisconsin has seen in generations.

Her agenda mirrors that of New York’s socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other far-left figures who have brought economic dysfunction and social division to their jurisdictions.

State-run banks. Government grocery stores. Race-based grant programs. This isn’t moderate Democratic governance — it’s a blueprint for government control of Wisconsin’s economy.

The Democratic Socialists of America backing isn’t incidental. It’s central to understanding what Hong represents: a wholesale rejection of free-market principles and individual liberty in favor of collectivist control.

The Establishment Falls in Line

Despite — or perhaps because of — her radical positions, Hong has secured endorsements from progressive heavyweights including Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Ro Khanna. She’s also dramatically outraised her remaining competition, pulling in nearly $709,000 as of late June.

Her main opponent, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, has managed just $250,000 in fundraising despite backing from outgoing Gov. Tony Evers.

The money tells the story. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party sees Wisconsin as winnable with an unapologetic socialist, and they’re investing accordingly.

A Frontrunner by Default?

Hong’s path to the nomination became clearer when former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes — once considered the frontrunner — abruptly dropped out amid investigations into allegations that he abused his position to make sexual advances toward women in the workplace.

Barnes’s exit left a vacuum that Hong has eagerly filled, consolidating support from the party’s progressive base.

With less than two weeks until the August 11 primary, Hong appears poised to capture the Democratic nomination and face Republican candidates in November’s general election.

What’s at Stake

Wisconsin has long been a purple state, a bellwether for national political trends. The prospect of a Democratic Socialist governor in Madison represents a seismic shift that would have implications far beyond the Badger State.

Hong’s candidacy is a test case for how far left the Democratic Party can push in competitive swing states. If socialism can win in Wisconsin, party strategists will conclude it can win anywhere.
